Van Dijk Feels Blessed after Much-Anticipated Return
Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk, has sent an emotional message to the club’s fans on Twitter, following his first appearance since his long knee injury lay-off.
After being sidelined for nine months, the Netherlands international was granted 20 minutes of play in Liverpool’s second half of their 4-3 defeat against Hertha BSC on Thursday, 29 July.
In the aftermath of the long-awaited moment, Van Dijk took to Twitter to express his gratitude towards those who supported him during his recovery journey.
The Reds’ defender said: “It’s hard to express how I am feeling, but it’s important to me that I say I feel blessed to have had the support of so many incredible people.”
He added: “The surgeon, my physios, coaches and staff who have been with me in my corner since day one. My team-mates for giving me energy and keeping my head up. The fans for their love, support and encouragement. Thank you.”
His leadership personality also came through, as he encouraged everyone by saying: “The work doesn’t stop now. It’s only just starting. We keep going!”
